In this article we shall discuss the spell known as the Unseen Servant, which is an extremely useful spell on DND.
Casting of the spell takes one action, and it takes one hour for 60 feet of range to be effective. This spell can be used by bards, warlocks, and wizards.
1st Level Conjuration (Ritual)
Casting Time: 1 action
Components: V, S, M
Material: A piece of string and a bit of wood
Range: 60 feet
Spell List: Bard, Warlock, Wizard
Duration: 1 hour
This spell creates an Invisible, mindless, shapeless force that performs simple tasks at your Command until the spell ends.
The servant springs into existence in an unoccupied space on the ground within range. It has AC 10, 1 hit point, and a Strength of 2, and it can’t Attack. If it drops to 0 Hit Points, the spell ends.
Once on each of your turns as a bonus Action, you can mentally Command the servant to move up to 15 feet and interact with an object.
The servant can perform simple tasks that a human servant could do, such as fetching things, cleaning, Mending, folding clothes, Lightning fires, serving food, and pouring wine.
Once you give the Command, the servant performs the task to the best of its ability until it completes the task, then waits for your next Command.
If you Command the servant to perform a task that would move it more than 60 feet away from you, the spell ends.
Frequently Asked Question of Unseen Servant
Unseen Servant is an interesting spell, but people usually ask a few questions regarding it. Here are the answers.
1. Can Unseen Servant Wear Clothes?
The “shapeless” part basically implies the Unseen Servant force cannot wear clothes in the same manner that humans would do. “Wearing” refers to allowing the clothes to take shape around the body as they are worn.
2. Can Unseen Servants Eat?
The servant has the capability of performing simple tasks a man would normally do, such as fetching items, cleaning, mending, folding clothes, lighting fires, serving food and pouring wine.
3. Can An Unseen Servant Hold A Shield?
No. A creature or object can provide you with cover, regardless of whether a shield is used, even though most DMs overlook this fact.
4. Can Unseen Servant Block Attacks?
By casting this spell, you can create an invisible, mindless, shapeless, medium force that will perform simple tasks at your command for the duration of the spell.
The servant appears on the ground in an unoccupied area within range in an unoccupied space. The creature has an AC of 10, 1 hit point, and a Strength of 2, and cannot be attacked.
5. How Much Can An Unseen Servant Carry?
This spell creates an invisible force that can be moved within a certain range at the will of the caster. A servant of a caster will obey any command the caster gives them.
It can carry a maximum weight of 200 gp (or 400 gp when pushing or pulling across a smooth surface).
6. Does Unseen Servant Have Mass?
Since it has the size of a medium creature, I would estimate it can raise something a maximum of 7-8 feet high.
Assuming it cannot walk over water, the spell would state that it cannot do so. The force is not capable of walking at all. There is no form, no mass, it just moves.
